i just read this article which makes a rather salient point how we are forced to be perceive these situations by media, in this case gunmen versus terrorists, simply because of skin colour / ethnic origin -

All were 18 years or older. “Dozens” of high schoolers shot in Compton this year therefore seems more than a little over the top.
