Keynote: Lucien Castaing-Taylor

To close our documentary day, The Truth About Non-Fiction, Lucien Castaing-Taylor, whose work has stretched the boundaries of documentary filmmaking, will be on hand for our Keynote presentation. Hear from one of the most exciting and innovative documentarians working today discuss his creative process, the state of documentaries, and what he thinks is the future of non-fiction filmmaking.
Lucien Castaing-Taylor recently co-directed Leviathan (with Véréna Paravel), which has been released theatrically in the United States, Mexico, Canada, France, Germany, and Austria. In 2009, he co-directed Sweetgrass (with Ilisa Barbash), which was also released theatrically around the world. His films and videos have screened at the Berlinale, the New York Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and other film festivals. Recent awards include the Alpert Award in the Arts (2013), and, with Véréna Paravel, the True Vision Award (2013), Guggenheim fellowship (2012), and the Los Angeles Film Critics' Circle Douglas Edwards Independent and Experimental Film Award (2012).
Castaing-Taylor’s work is in the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art and the British Museum, and has been exhibited at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts, MoMA PS1, and elsewhere. He is also the Director of Harvard's new Sensory Ethnography Lab as well as the Harvard Film Center.
